Hidden realities behind running a Business

Lately, I’ve been struggling and can’t seem to get out of my own way.

I’ve been battling myself with the same questions and thoughts:

  • Am I reaching my true potential?

  • What do I actually want out of life?

  • Am I the version of the person I want to be?

  • Things need to change. I need to change.

  • Am I on the right path?

When we feel this way, it’s easy to push emotions away to avoid dealing with them and doing the work. But doing this only prevents the issue from being resolved.

It reminds me a bit like brand design. On the surface, you can have a pretty visual identity, but if you haven’t done the work to identify your audience, understand your USP, and create a killer product or service, those pretty visuals won’t get you far.

So, why am I sharing these feelings with you?

Because running a business is hard, and not a lot of people talk about the feelings that come with it. I want you to know it’s normal not to have everything figured out, to question yourself and your path (no matter where you are in your journey).

But when these feelings arise, don’t push them away. Instead, reflect on them:

  • What emotions are you feeling?

  • Why are you feeling this way?

  • What are you currently unhappy with?

  • How often do these feelings arise?

  • What’s making you question things?

  • What are you avoiding?

Take the time to identify the cause of the problem, that way, you'll know how to better resolve it. For example, the reason I don’t feel like I’m reaching my potential when it comes to business (after some reflecting) is mainly due to comparison.

I see others doing more, which makes me question my own capabilities.

Shouldn't I be doing more? Should I be doing what they’re doing?

When in reality, they’re on a completely different path, and what they’re doing isn’t necessarily the right fit for me. Anyway, I hope this has made you reflect on a few things if you are struggling at the moment. Here's some reminders to take away today:

  1. It’s okay not to have things figured out.

  2. It’s normal to question your path.

  3. Don’t push these feelings away—reflect, question, and get to the bottom of them.

  4. Don’t fall into the trap of following someone else’s version of success.

P.S. Do you know what also helps when you’re feeling sh*t? A GOOD CRY. Let it out. Trust me.

Chat next week,

Abi 😊
